How Much Does a Vote Cost?

Sandwiches at the local store are on sale for $5.  If I’m only thinking about the sandwich then it’s easy $5 gets me one sandwich.  Except when I start to think about how many calories, or how much sodium I’m getting for that $5 then it’s not such an easy decision.

So how do we calculate what our vote actually cost, or what not voting cost us.

Tomorrow is America’s big day…voting day.  Supposedly voting is free, but in actuality it never has been.  Many people, not just in America but all over the world, have paid with their very lives for the right to vote.  And voting today comes with a high emotional, and cognitive cost that comes with either the feeling of power or futility, connection or isolation.  The cost of not casting a vote is abdication, and perhaps someone who needs you to speak up pays the high price of your silence.

The price paid for voting, or not voting adds up.  The country is the sum total of what was voted for, or not vote for.

If anything in America is true it’s that you get what you pay for.  So remember your vote not only counts, it costs.
