Do Hard Things

Human nature is to avoid hard things even when doing something as simple as riding a bicycle.

While casual riders gravitate toward cushy gel based saddles, pros ride saddles with zero padding over thousands of miles. Why?  Because professional riders know that bike seats need to be hard to do their job properly.

Soft cushy seats are comfortable at first because they allow you to sink into them, but later they cause rubbing, chafing, and overheating.  Hard seats are hard at first but provide proper contact with sit bones causing greater lift in the back and a more comfortable ride over time.

So the longer you’re on the hard seat the more comfortable your ride becomes. Such is life.

As we think about our lives, our work, and our relationships we tend to avoid things that are hard.  But when we make the hard choice, when we turn down the road least traveled the discomfort is normally short lived.  In the long run doing the hard thing strengthens emotional muscles, and improves character.  Remember…If you do what is easy your life will be hard, but if you do what is hard your life will be easy.

Doing hard things makes you more comfortable over time.
